16" Nissan Rogue wheels on my NV200

I decided not to mess around buying new tire pressure sensors.
I bought 4 new steel wheels for a Nissan Rogue. I also picked up a set of Hercules Power CV tires that have the same "C" rating, I went with 215/65R16C
I tried out my new tire changer and spin balancer and mounted them up this morning. I really thought I had gone a tad too tall but they haven't rubbed at all yet, even in sharp turns, small humps, etc.

They look good. One comment I have consistantly received is the origional 15s look like compact spare tires. They are just too small in appearance. What did you do to correct speedometer? Do you know if the computer can be reflashed to correct for a change in tire diameter?

My van is also black.
Well, I guess I went too big. Clearance was fine but the van fought pretty hard to go down a flat road at around 55mph. I drove about 35 miles with a tail wind and the mileage average was my worst ever.
I pulled them off today and went with some 205/55R16 tires that I had around just to try it. Van goes down the road just fine now. Mileage more toward normal. So now bigger than the originals but not near as big as those others I tried!

Thanks for the information. In looking at your pictures, there appears to be very little clearance between the 215/65R16C tires and the wheel well. There appears to be much more space between the 205/55R16 and the wheel well. But even the 205/55R16 's look better than the "too small" origional tires. I'm probably gonna follow your lead on this. Please post again when you have driven on the 205/55R16's for a while and have checked your average milage over multiple refuelings. I don't wanna make any expensive mistakes.

I don't want to degrade the cargo capacity of the van, so I am reluctant to jump to aftermarket aluminum wheels. And I strongly dislike the origional hubcaps that came on the ""SV" version and the plastic centercaps that came on the "base" version. I'd like to find some chrome centercaps that fit the center hole of both the 15 and 16 inch factory steel wheels or possibly just a smigion larger. I intend to have the factory steel wheels chrome plated. If the center cap is slightly larger, I can have the hole machined out to accomodate a slightly larger, but factory appearing, center cap. And then just add some chromed lug nuts. Any suggestions?

There is still the question of correcting the speedometer. ???

First thing I did was put on Toyo Eclipse 205/55/16 on American Racing wheels, kept sensors and did matching spare. Tire carrier rear bolts needed 5/8" spacer plate and longer bolts for bigger tire to fit in cage.
Speedo/mileage is only off 6% ie. 100 miles on odo is actually 106 traveled.
NV handles great especially in corners, highway ride less jumpy, and it looks better.

Nicely done!
So Demp, you were able to use the original sensors in the new wheels?
Thanks for the spare tire info. You added spacers for the wider tire? Was the diameter ok with fitting in there?
JB
16x7 rim fits perfect with no scrub issues. They moved sensors over to new rims including spare.
Spacers needed on spare tire cage only due to wider tire. I put solid aluminum blocks at rear cage pivot bolts to lower cage enough so when it pivots around tire it can still meet up with front hook to tighten up. It's a snug fit but it fits.
Also removed the two sheet metal bump blocks that stock tire goes against. Just four spot welds per hump to remove. A bit of primer and undercoat and it looks factory again. New tire contacts underside better without humps.
i see load range on those tires is 87 vs 94 for the oem C tires...not a big deal?
If you put a chrome beauty wheels it could looks great.
anyone have a bearing on the mileage difference between the 205s and 185s? What about the 195s?
Also it looks like Continental makes a 195 and 205 with adequate load rating if I'm reading the it right - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...dewall=Blackwall&partnum=97R5VANCO4&tab=Specs

Going to pick up my NV today but as long as you adjust the sidewall ratio accordingly, over all diameter should be the same meaning the car is still running normal. A wider tires(esp. between 185 and 195 which is very little) would have very minimal effect on the mileage. Maybe jumping to a 205 might lower mileage by 1-2 mpg, but at least it'll look better from the back
Have any of you guys checked the load rating on the new tires? Reason I ask is I am a Commercial Manager at A Nissan Dealership, and I have a customer wanting bigger tires installed. Every one of my wholesalers say there is not a tire made with the appropriate load rating on them for this NV200.

Feedback Welcomed,

Thanks...
I started running Yokohama 195/60/15 - 4760 lb load tires about a month ago. As you probably know the van weighs 4700.
My payloads are generally never over 100lbs. Looking for longer mileage tires. These tires sure do ride better too.
I have been researching this issue, and there just doesn't seem to be a tire that has the PSI and load rating for these NV200's that is bigger than 15"...UGH!!!

I believe the GVW is 4700 lbs, the van weighs about 3250 lbs.
the 195/60/15, tire size shold be ok. just look for 51 max psi tires, and run them at 44 psi., to satisfy the TPM system

I did this just yesterday--replaced my el-cheapo Kelly Explorer 185/60/R15 tires max pressure 44psi with four slightly less el-cheapo Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max 185/60/R15s, but with max pressure of 51psi.

I had no problem with the load rating of the Kellys, and the Goodyears are the same 84, but now I can set the pressures to make the TPMS consistently happy and no issues with Odo or MPH or MPG.

Have only put a few miles on the Assurance tires, and maybe it's somewhat wishful thinking on my part, but they ride quiet, handle bumps well, and corner comfortably and thus seem a definite improvement over the Kellys they replaced.

I think the 51psi rated tire is a good option for anyone here who doesn't care about the doinky look of the R15s and wants to keep mileage/mph/mpg/sensors all working as OEM.

As was mentioned, the NV200 GVWR is 4700lbs.

Having 4 tires that can just handle the total 4700 lb GVWR is incorrect logic.
Think about where the load goes when you load up the van.
The load is not evenly carried by all 4 tires.
This is why the OEM tires, each rated at 1470lbs, add up to 5880lbs although the van GVWR is only 4700lbs.

Anyone who is carrying cargo with their NV200 should not follow this advice in purchasing tires.
I don't recommend running tires less that the OEM tire rating of 1470lbs each.
These tires exist.
Thank you for your Valuable post and research on this. Black on Black rims with wider tires is the look i'm going for and willing to sacrafice some MPG and cargo capacity.

**** Shame... Van looked really nice with these! Stock van looks top heavy and stupid looking IMO.

I have question for anybody who might know please!

Regarding 215/65/16..That's 27x8.5... Any chance this it was just a bad speedometer reading? Can anybody explain how/why this is possible? Those steels are 16x6.5 +45mm offset? By chance know how close they were to rubbing? Were those 16s rims further out than the 15s?

I think factories are 15x5.5 which really limits tire width. Anybody know how close factory tires are to anything they can rub on. What's the offset of the stock 15 rims?

I've heard of people of mounting 10 inch wide tires on 15x5.5 on other cars with no problems. I'd like to know if possible to mount some 255/60/15s on them which is 27x10.

Thanks in Advance!

Also wondering about new 15x7 with 3.5inch backspace steel vs oem 15x5.5 45mm offset. geez backspace vs offset and and different wheel widths.. it's like an SAT question.

it's extreme.. but Wondering if this wheel with 255/60/15 tires might work too. Love the little rim with a fat retro/bulging tire look on a van!
