Big Problem when "Tire Press Low"!!!

32931 Views 13 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  4U2 NV Lol
My 2013 NV200 (with nav and backup camera) woke-up the other day with the small Odometer (orange) display reading Tire Press Low and also the low pressure icon is lit, this despite that all 4 tires are reading the same i.e. around 40psi.

I am vacationing and might otherwise ignore this incorrect warning EXCEPT THAT I CAN'T USE THE ODOMETER AT ALL ANY MORE, the display cannot be teased to show anything but this warning. Well, I did run the gas down to the warning level and now it does display the miles-left warning which is good. But I need/want the odometer display to work and can't get it shown.

Has anyone here had this problem, or know of any "reset" function I might try, or other trick to employ to get the NV200 off of this false TPMS warning?:surprise:

Aren't the rear tires supposed to be at 48 PSI and fronts at 44 PSI? Are you on OE tires?

I sure hope they redesigned the system for 2015. I don't want to spend $400 on TPMS sensors for my winter set.

Good thought--no I don't have OE tires, they are Kelly Explorers with a max PSI of 44. If the OE tires need the higher pressures (didn't even think to look inside the door) then this could indeed be the (simple) problem.

Thanks for posting.

EDIT: Yeah I just went-out and looked and 48/44 is right, so the obvious question is "at what point are the TPMS sensors unhappy" and it's likely 40 cuz I think that's where my Kellys are hovering now. I will bump them to their max 44 psi and that should fix the problem.

Thanks again and I too vote for a "redesigned system" at least one which does not hold my odometer hostage to sensor problems!

No problem. BTW what tire size are you using? I'm trying to upgrade to a 215/60/16 since I've got a like new set sitting around. Trying to see what people have experienced with before I have them mounted and balanced.

I've posted here somewhere about my Kelly tires, which are the same size as the OEM though a lower load rating.

Although I would like better tires, at this point I'm not going to change them unless/until they fail or wear-out (they were brand-new when I bought the used NV200).

I'm hoping that by the time mine wear-out, there will be more options for better tires in the OE size, or maybe someone will figure-out how to re-program the speedometer to account for different tire sizes.

BTW I did fill my Kellys to their max 44 PSI and that turned-off the CHECK TIRE PRES on the orange display. Still can't believe they designed it to be unusable for any other display until the TPMS are satisfied.
By coincidence, this tire pressure indicator popped up on my 2014 Nissan last night. This morning, I checked tire pressure and had about 40 psi in all tires. I topped off to about 48 all around and indicator turned off.

Mine came on again despite my having topped them off a few days ago. Tires must not like the cooler nights we have up here lately.

This warning has become a real PIA for me who has the 44psi tires. I suppose I could bump them a couple more pounds without causing them to explode!?
Hi
I have a 2014 Nissan NV200 I change my 4 tire and buy size 205/65/15 but my air pressure light is on and I just want to know how can turn it off
Thanks
Back to the original question.

Is there a way to check the ODO when this is going on? Tire pressure is fine, and I need to report my mileage.
When we had a fleet of 20 of so Canadian Chevy NV200's, only a few of the vans would "lock" up the dash LCD when the tire pressure was low.
The TPMS threshold was about 45 PSI.

The trick we found was to turn the key on and off quickly and numerous times to get the ODO mileage to flash briefly in the LCD.

That's what I do too. Pita. I only have lights come on when the tire actually has a hole in it though. Had one that kept coming in with the light on, Same tire go low after a few days. Had 3-4 pin holes in it.
The proper air pressure for the tires on a NV200 are 44 front and 48 rear , the tag for tire size and pressure is on the door jam on the driver's side to the right on the American version of this van. With the original sized tires (185/60/R15) , with a hot day to a cold night you will usually have this happen, it is a pain in the ass...as the nag prevents you from using any of the other features of the LCD display.

I have the exact setup on my NV2- works great. On after market 16” wheels which fit a Honda Element- got a hair of rear inner fender well rubbing of the undercoating when overloaded, but I ended up getting Sumosprings— helper/ leveler springs... they are great if you run a van ful of tools every day like me!
