Hello,

Anyone have the Lunar Camper Car / Lunar Vacanza with the inflatable air bed?

If so you'll no doubt know it is very firm, indeed solid, which it needs to be to give support in places it doesn't have direct contact with the seats.

My question is, have you found a suitable solution that easily resolves this firm/solid bed problem? That is, have you used a) a memory foam mattress, b) self inflating mat systems as used by campers in tents or c) some other solution?

Sorry, can't help, but a couple of people on here have them.
Have you looked at, say, MotorhomeFun? May have more luck there?
The Lunar has some innovative features but we didn't like the bed idea - so hence we will be DIYing a build (all being well!)

The Lunar is by no means perfect for most people but for what I need it will work well.

It must be the smallest camper with four belted travel seats, most sacrifice the rear seats for the conversion. The bed is a bit of a strange idea but works, as mentioned in my original post it is solid, very firm but fortunately I now have a reasonable solution courtesy of a couple of self inflating mats made by OEX, form Go Outdoors. The mats are very comfortable and fit quite well considering the tapered shape of the campers air bed, a big improvement even though it seems mad to be buying inflatable mats to go on an air bed!!!

Making up the air bed takes about 10-20 minutes once you get used to rotating the front seats and arranging the rear seats. The marine grade pump works really well inflating and deflating the bed however it is very noisy. If arriving on a camp site late in an evening it may be a bit of a nuisance to other campers on nearby pitches. My first outing I set the bed up early evening so not to annoy anyone nearby.

My bigger problem now is getting the window suction cups on the the privacy blinds to stick!!! It takes me longer sorting them out than the bed. I've tried the usual suggestions, cleaning the window glass, cleaning the suction cups, adding a bit of spit to the cups etc etc.

Anyway I'm happy with the camper car overall, after the first three weeks of getting it I'm getting around 47MPG and its not run in yet (800 miles on the clock). I assume the MPG will improve as the engine beds in more. It is basically giving MPG close to an average car which is something a bigger van like a VW T4/T5 would no doubt struggle to achieve. So it is living up to its expectations, giving me day to day car economy and the benefit of a camper on the occasions I want to head off somewhere nice

I have a camper car and my issue is that the bed is too soft. Lunar have fixed a 'governer' to the compressor so it can't inflate above 3.5. What pressure do you inflate yours to? I intend using Alpkit air matresses on top of the Lunar bed. I have the Alpkit matresses from previous car-camping trips and they're excellent and not too pricey either.

Have you considered something like this (see link) for the black out blinds I have just today received two for the side windows I fitted and they are great took about 5 seconds to fit as they are magnetic

Hi mrnv200 - I am having an NV200 Combi converted and plan to use these privacy blinds. However not all can be magnetic as these type require the inside window edges to be exposed to metal. My converter took the windows out when insulating, so the lining is tucked neatly into the window. For these window types I need the suction type blinds. Luckily the company who supply has both magnetic and suction type.

to find the correct position, you may use colors. Every part another color at the same corner (up and left) and the coresponding color near the window.

In answer to Happy Camper albeit quite a delay in my response,

I bought my camper car from Don Amott near Derby and drove it home, on arrival at home I gave the bed a try only to find out the air compressor/pump had a fault and kept blowing the inline fuse. After replacing the fuse with several new ones I decided it was a case of return to the dealer and have him look at it. The guy in their workshop replace the pump and recommended inflating the pump to 3.5 PSI like you were advised by Lunar. However I too found this too soft and could not even lie on the bed without it collapsing into the gaps between the seats! I looked in the Lunar user manual (Page 9-16 first paragraph) and that said to inflate to a minimum of 6.1 PSI or a maximum of 7 PSI. So I now inflate the bed to 6.1 PSI which is very firm in fact quite uncomfortable to lie on itself, but at least it gives the correct support across and between the seats. I then place two OEX Compact 4.0 Self Inflating Sleeping Mats (40mm inflated thickness) side by side on top of the air bed to give a bit more comfort, then sleeping bags on top of the mats. In my opinion Lunar should have provided a secondary mattress to cover the airbed and provide a comfortable nights sleep - I shouldn't have had to buy self-inflating air mats to provide the comfort that should be inherently provided by the manufacturer. My own fault for not doing more research and too late now to do much about it.

I did look at the Alpkit mattresses but my preference was for the OEX ones from Go Outdoors as they are shaped in such a way that they fit between the front seat backrests quite well. Good luck with your solution.

I'm puzzled by what you are suggesting here regarding colours and positions? I can position the blinds quite easily and have no problem getting them the right/correct way round. As for colours I do not have a clue what you mean by this, there are no colour codes for positioning the blinds!

. The memory foam works best as moulds around the steering column and front seat area well.

I've used self-inflating mats, thick quilts and eventually cut a memory foam mattress to the same size as the airbed. Like you I prefer the memory foam mattress best of all. My only dislike of the camper car layout is that once the beds up you can't drive off without putting the bed away, not good if you need something from a shop and its too far to walk. Other camper van conversions of the NV200 allow the front seats to be used and be driven even when the beds are made up.

It's not a bad camper car for one, though if your at or above average height, that steering wheel can be a pain so sleeping diagonally to avoid it is essential really.

I've just bought the Lunar Vacanza and so far so good! Reading the comments about the bed, I wonder if an awning might be a good solution for me as I'm likely to be using sites rather than wild camping. Can someone recommend a suitable make and model........and how do I stop the irritating rattle which comes from the back but which I can't locate. Also the radio performance is poor where I live (on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales) so I wondered if there anything I can do to get a better reception.

To end on a positive note, I've already had some good fun and I think the van will suit me well.

I am quite late to reply here, well I strongly agree with you, I also use memory foam mattress what home and when I go on traveling too, it is really too much comfy and much easy to carry and handle, Can you tell me from where you bought? I purchased my one from Nest bedding coupons, plz tell me about your one.
