Could probably go either way but these things don't have a full k-frame, just a suspension crossmember that the control arms and rack and pinion bolt to(like an old fwd dodge). It'd probably be easier to pull the works out the front. The entire rad support just unbolts on these turds making life easier. There are pics of someone pulling the engine out the front somewhere on the forum. Or at least there were...
Service Manual - ENGINE REMOVAL
Remove the engine and the transaxle assembly from the vehicle downward. Separate the engine and the transaxle.

See attachment for details.
Hope this helps a little.

Sorry if this is too late but I've just taken the engine and box out of an NV200 2013 model. I didn't have access to a lift so I took it out of the front - and i suspect it was probably the easiest way anyway.
Bumper off, rad and intercooler off, cross members off and its all there in front of you. A trolley jack to do the lifting and some trolleys/wheeled platforms to lower it onto is the only extra kit you need. Another pair of hands would be useful although I did it on my own. Not put it back in yet !
