I have finally got going with the self conversion. The aim is to keep the van as flexible a possible rather than a permanent conversion with bed taking up space.

The first job has been making blinds and covering the interior panels which were quite worn.

Here are a couple of before and after pics. I don't have any pics of them in situ yet but will try to get some this week.

And this week I took some time off to tackle a removable kitchen pod. The basis was 2 Duktig IKEA kids kitchen unit kits, and two sets of castors also from IKEA. I still need to attach a Whale pump action tap and sort out the gas connector. The sink is a Collaps one stored in the right hand compartment along with 2 collapsible buckets, so when cooking, the surface to the right of the cooker if free to use as a work surface.

Still have some work to do but it is getting there...

Hi Hovehornet! Your concept seems to match ours (modular interior for easy remove / reinstall), but we do want a bed for camping. I've got a few questions, thanks for any advice you can give.

How have the Ikea cabinets worked out in general?

What is the purpose of the caster wheels? Do you move the cabinets when you use them?

Did you bolt the cabinets to the anchor points in the sidewalls, or how do you hold them in place - especially when driving?

Any pictures of the cabinets in situ?

Again, thanks for any advice. We've been having a blast camping with our van but want to get the interior more fitted out before next Summer season.
