Hello guys,

I picked up a nv200 a while back second hand, one previous owner, has 66k on the clock and serviced at all recommended intervals. Recently a slight squeal has appeared when the engine is ticking over, disappears as soon you give a slight bit of gas. Reading up on Renault forum's and trying to diagnose the problem there's a lot that comes up about alternators and alternator pulley, tested starting with all electric items on and off and has no affect on the sound.

Wondering if anybody has had the same problem and could diagnose what it could be? Will be taking to a garage but would be nice to have an idea if it's the fan belt or something else?

Best wishes, Steve.

problem diagnosed

Hello again,

Thought I would post an update on the problem above.

Have been to a mechanic and had the problem diagnosed. It seems that on the 61 plate there may be a slight design fault.

The joint where the exhaust leaves the engine rubs with another piece of metal. The mechanic re-adjusted the nuts and used a rubber tension-er to pull them apart.

It's not a big problem, but more of an annoyance when sat at lights or parked.

Sorry for the lack of detail, I know nothing when it comes to vans.

All the best. Steve
